The team was called out yesterday afternoon at 2pm to two separate incidents on the north moor involving Ten Tors teams.
The first team were at Dinger Tor and had a casualty suffering chest pains and hypothermia. The casualty was assessed by our team doctor and subsequently by South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust’s HART team and was assisted off the moor to the waiting ambulance.
At the same time two further NDSART teams were making their way to the second Ten Tors team who were at the top of Great Kneeset. Access was difficult due to the high rivers but team members arrived at Great Kneeset just as the police helicopter evacuated the hypothermic casualty. The remaining Ten Tors team members were checked over and were able to make their way off the moor.
Everyone involved was clear of the moor by 5pm.
We wish both casualties a speedy recovery and were pleased to be able to work with other agencies to effect a swift evacuation. Thanks also to our colleagues at Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team – Tavistock who were on standby to assist us.
